The operation process of the refrigeration unit in the cold storage
  2018-05-18 |  View:
The operation process of a cold storage refrigeration unit follows the vapor compression refrigeration cycle, a continuous loop involving four key components: compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:

  1. Compression Stage
The cycle starts with the compressor, which draws in low-pressure, low-temperature refrigerant vapor (e.g., R513A, CO₂) from the evaporator. The compressor compresses this vapor, raising its pressure and temperature significantly (typically 80–120°C), converting it into a high-pressure, high-temperature superheated gas. This increases the refrigerant’s heat-carrying capacity, preparing it for heat release.
  2. Condensation Stage
The high-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant gas flows into the condenser (either air-cooled or water-cooled). Here, heat is transferred from the refrigerant to the surrounding environment (ambient air or cooling water). As heat is released, the refrigerant condenses into a high-pressure, medium-temperature liquid, retaining most of its pressure but losing heat.
  3. Expansion Stage
The high-pressure liquid refrigerant then passes through the expansion valve, a throttling device that rapidly reduces its pressure. This sudden pressure drop causes the refrigerant to expand, cool down, and partially evaporate into a low-pressure, low-temperature mixture of liquid and vapor (typically -20 to -40°C, depending on the cold storage setpoint). This prepares it to absorb heat in the next stage.
  4. Evaporation Stage
The low-pressure, low-temperature refrigerant mixture enters the evaporator, which is installed inside the cold storage. Here, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the stored goods and the surrounding air in the cold room, causing the remaining liquid refrigerant to fully evaporate into vapor. This heat absorption lowers the temperature inside the cold storage to the desired setpoint. The now low-pressure, low-temperature vapor is then sucked back into the compressor, and the cycle repeats.

Throughout operation, sensors monitor temperature, pressure, and refrigerant flow. A control system adjusts the compressor’s speed, expansion valve opening, and fan operation to maintain stable temperatures (e.g., -18°C for frozen goods) and optimize efficiency. Safety features (overload protection, pressure relief valves) prevent equipment damage, ensuring continuous, reliable cooling for the cold storage.
